Lee Su-Rae
Abstract
This study was performed to evaluate the adequacy of current, monitoring system for pesticide residues by major laboratories in Korea, in the light of the priority for food commodity, pesticide items, and multiresidue analysis. Among the 165 plant-origin food items used in Korea, 61 major items with high intake levels were analyzed for residues, and 43 items with negligible intake levels were found to have been monitored in vain. Among the 112 pesticide items in the higher risk ranks, most were analyzed, whereas 57 items in the lower or negligible risk ranks were analyzed in vain. Multi-residue analysis methods covered most pesticides in the higher risk ranks, whereas 62 pesticides in the lower or negligible risk ranks were analyzed. It is advisable to make efforts to cover food and pesticide items of higher risk priorities and to delete items of lower or negligible risk in terms of health risk to consumers.
